Bravo, John

It’s generally accepted that John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are total #couplegoals.

But the gorgeous pair have had their fair share of difficulties, with Chrissy recently revealing that she suffered from postpartum depression following the birth of their first child, Luna, in April 2016.

And now Beauty and the Beast singer John has opened up for the first time about the ‘dark time’ they went through when Chrissy was suffering from the condition, revealing he was not ’emotionally prepared’ for it in an honest interview.

You don’t see it coming,’ the star told The Sun.

You’re not emotionally prepared for someone that’s going through a dark time as you’re welcoming this new life.’

He went on to reveal how he feared he could be part of the cause of Chrissy’s condition, saying: ‘When you don’t understand what’s happening, it’s a bit challenging to figure it out and you don’t know if it’s something you’ve done or some other reason why she’s not feeling well.

‘Once you understand what the reasons are then it makes perfect sense and you can adjust accordingly.

‘It’s a chemical thing that happens to a lot of people after giving birth and there are ways to treat it and deal with it.’

John added: ‘So many people go through this — they say one in nine but there’s probably more than that. I think it was good for her to talk about it.’

Referring to the emotional article Chrissy penned for Glamour magazine last month, the star said: ‘She was already doing better when she was writing the piece.

‘She was coming out of it and was able to see it more clearly with some perspective and I think it was helpful for her to be on her way out of it as she was writing.

‘We want three or four children. We’re still excited to have more kids and we’re going to do it.’

Lip Sync Battle host Chrissy revealed she suffered postpartum depression in a self-penned article for the April issue of Glamour US, saying she felt ‘so unhappy’ following Luna’s birth.

‘Getting out of bed to get to set on time was painful,’ she wrote.

‘My lower back throbbed; my shoulders – even my wrists – hurt. I didn’t have an appetite. I would go two days without a bite of food… I couldn’t figure out why I was so unhappy.

‘When I wasn’t in the studio, I never left the house. I had every shade closed. Most days were spent on the exact same spot on the couch and rarely would I muster up the energy to make it upstairs for bed.

‘John would sleep on the couch with me, sometimes four nights in a row. I started keeping robes and comfy clothes in the pantry so I wouldn’t have to go upstairs when John went to work. There was a lot of spontaneous crying.’

We think it’s  lovely that John was able to help his lovely lady though such a tough time – #couplegoals indeed!
