The TOWIE star tell us about her relationship with The Wanted's Max

Seeing your ex snogging a chart-topping pop star and global heartthrob can’t be easy.

But there’s more bad news for Mario Falcone: Lucy Mecklenburgh reveals she’s happier than she’s been in ages now that she’s hooked up with The Wanted‘s Max George.

Speaking exclusively to Now, Lucy, 21, admits things are going well with the hunk – and hits back at critics who say she’s heading for heartache because he’s a notorious ladies’ man.

She tells us: ‘Max isn’t the bad boy people think he is.

‘He’s treating me really nicely.

‘It’s early days but I’m very happy.’

Asked if she’s glad she’s out of her tempestuous on-off romance with Mario, 25, she adds: ‘Yeah, I’m happier now.

‘I just love being able to do what I want to do when I want.

‘And as for whether Max is more romantic… it’s too early to say.

‘Ask me in a few months!’

Lucy and Max had been trying hard to keep their new love affair secret but were caught out when they were pictured kissing after a Wanted gig at London’s Heaven club on 29 June.

The TOWIE star says it was Max who made the first move: ‘He followed me on Twitter and I followed him back, then we started messaging.

‘And then he texted me.’

Max, 24, was previously engaged to Now columnist Michelle Keegan, 26, but they split in July 2012.

It was later claimed he’d been sexting his ex Bobbi Aney, 30, during the relationship – an allegation he strongly denies.

He’s since played up to his womaniser reputation, bragging about hot girls and one-night stands on The Wanted‘s new E! reality series The Wanted Life.

However, Lucy‘s convinced that BF Max is just misunderstood.

She’s also quick to hit back at Mario after he told Now last week: ‘I’m relieved [her new man] isn’t a member of One Direction as I like them.’

Lucy, who spoke to us at an Easilocks extensions party in London last week, laughs: ‘What do I say? It’s pathetic.

‘He’s being bitter.

‘I’m moving on – and up.

‘At the end of the day I don’t want to get into a bitching match about this.

‘But what I will say is that The Wanted are a massive worldwide band and Max is lovely.’

If that isn’t clear enough, a super-confident Lucy, who also attended a Next Stop LAX party to help actors relocate to America last week, adds: ‘I just want to distance myself from Mario at the moment.’

One thing the star is slightly spooked out about is that Max‘s ex Michelle is dating her former boyfriend Mark Wright, 26.

‘It’s a really weird coincidence that we’re all exes,’ she admits.

‘But it’s a completely different thing with Max than it was with Mark.

‘I met Michelle a very long time ago – she’s lovely.

‘I wish them a lot of luck!’

Hmm, maybe best not to pencil in a double date just yet!
