Pop stars insist they lead 'normal lives'

Boyband stars McFly reckon they don’t get as much press attention as some of their peers because they fail to generate headlines through drug-taking or hard partying.

‘If we were the type of band that took drugs and fell out of clubs at three in the morning, I’m sure we’d be all over the papers,’ says Tom Fletcher.

The 22-year-old lead singer – who went to stage school with notorious bad girl Amy Winehouse – insists that the boys lead relatively ‘normal lives’.

‘I wouldn’t want to be anymore famous than I am,’ he says, ‘definitely not. I am quite happy with the way things are.’

Although the guys – who have been together 4 years and have notched up an impressive 7 No 1 singles and 2 No 1 albums – say they aren’t wild, their recent on-stage antics would suggest otherwise.

During a recent gig at London’s G.A.Y. club, Danny Jones, 21, and Dougie Poynter, 19, shocked the audience by setting their pubes alight.

‘It was bonfire night and Danny and Dougie had cod-pieces with fireworks attached but were told they weren’t allowed to use them on-stage without the proper pyrotechnics licence,’ Tom tells the Daily Record.

‘So, instead, they improvised with lighters down below. It could have ended in tears but, thankfully, their lower regions are intact.’
