From her brith name to twerking confession... did you know all these facts??

From squeaky-clean Hannah Montana to controversial star… 11 things you didn’t know about Miley Cyrus!

Born under a different name
Destiny Hope Cyrus was born in Franklin, Tennessee, on 23 November 1992 but was
later nicknamed Smiley – then shortened to Miley – because she smiled so much as a child. In 2008, she officially changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus.

Health issues
She was born with a condition called tachycardia, which means that her resting heart rate exceeds a normal beat. She’s revealed: ‘The type of tachycardia I have isn’t dangerous. It won’t hurt me, but it does bother me. There’s never a time onstage when I’m not thinking about my heart.’

Being bisexual
Miley was 14 when she told her mum Tish that she was bisexual. In an interview with Paper magazine, she revealed: ‘I’m literally open to every single thing that’s consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age. Everything that’s legal, I’m down with. Yo, I’m down with any adult– anyone over the age of 18
who is down to love me.’

Moneybags Miley
Last year Miley made it on to the Forbes Celebrity 100 rich list at 17th place, with annual earnings of $76.5 million (£23.4 million) – more than Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. Wowzer.

Battling depression
Miley’s candidly revealed: ‘I went through a time where I was really depressed. Like,
I locked myself in my room and my dad had to break my door down. I had really bad skin and felt really bullied because of that. But I never was depressed because of the way someone else made me feel. I just was depressed.’

Banned fromthe Kennedys’ Xmas celebrations
Miley was dating Arnold Schwarzenegger’s actor son Patrick last December, but his mother Maria Shriver – niece of assassinated US President John F Kennedy – reportedly said it would be inappropriate to have her around the Kennedys at Christmas. Ouch.

Admits taking ‘happy’ drugs
Miley’s talked openly about her penchant for drugs, revealing: ‘Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is so much better. And Molly [Ecstasy], too. Those are happy drugs – social drugs. They make you want to be with friends. You’re out in the open. You’re
not in a bathroom.’

Family drama
Miley has five siblings – Trace, Brandi, Braison, Noah and Christopher – and her dad is country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. Although he’s been married to Miley’s mum Tish since 1993, they’ve split more than once before reconciling. In 2013, Miley seemed to accuse her dad of having an affair, Tweeting: ‘@billyraycyrus since you won’t reply to my texts I’m giving you an hour to tell the truth or ill tell it for you [sic],’ alongside a photo of actress Dylis Croman, who co-starred with Billy in a production of Chicago. Miley later deleted the Tweet and neither Billy nor Dylis commented. Billy and Tish are still together now.

She’s a college course. Really!
New York’s liberal arts school Skidmore College has a course for students who actually want to study her. The course, Miley Cyrus: Race, Class, Gender & Media, is taught by professor of sociology Carolyn Chernoff. Can we enrol please?

Body image struggle
In 2013, concerns grew for Miley’s health after she admitted to only weighing 7st 10lb. However, she put her weight loss down to food allergies, saying: ‘For everyone calling me anorexic, I have a gluten and lactose allergy. It’s not about weight, it’s about health.’

Giving up twerking
She’ll always be remembered for that twerking performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs, but Miley recently claimed: ‘I’ve retired [from twerking], yeah.’ Twerking is so two years ago!
