Mitch insists Amy was the road to recovery

Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch has revealed that before her death Amy was on prescribed drug Librium to help her beat her reliance on booze and prevent anxiety.

The part-time jazz singer and cab driver, 60, believes his daughter died after a seizure and ‘there was nobody there to rescue her’.

‘What happened to Amy wasn’t anything to do with drugs,’ Mitch told Anderson Cooper on his talk show.

‘Everything Amy did, she did to excess. She drank to excess and did detox to excess.

‘The periods of abstinence were becoming longer, and the periods of drinking were becoming shorter. It was heading in the right direction.

Toxicology tests showed no illegal drugs were present in Amy‘s body when she died.

The findings by St Pancras coroner’s office demolished claims that Amy met with a drug dealer and bought heroin and crack cocaine the night before she was found dead at her flat in Camden on 23 July.

Amy’s family are now awaiting the conclusion of an inquest due on 26 October.
