Mollie King has signed a solo record deal away from The Saturdays
We love a bit of girl power in the Now offices, so unsurprisingly, we’ve been feeling a big girl-band void in our lives ever since The Saturdays went on hiatus.
But if you’re waiting for a new Saturday single to drop some time soon, then you may be waiting a bit longer we’re afraid.
Mollie King has shared a pic on her Instagram of the Island Records logo, along with the hashtags #BeyondExcited and #2016.
Now, if your detective inklings serves us right, then we think the 28-year-old has just signed a solo record deal with Island Records. (we know, we’re basically Sherlock.)
She’s in pretty good hands as Island Records are also home to artists Florence and the Machine, Jessie J and Hozier.
As for The Saturdays front, there’s no word on whether she’s still signed to Polydor Records and Fascination, who formed the band in 2007, but despite the group releasing their greatest hits album, Finest Selection, last year, Mollie isn’t ready for The Saturdays to end yet.
‘I’d be lying if I said I was ready for the band to end. We’ll get back in the studio at some point. I’d really like us all to do another tour together.’
While the band are on hiatus, Mollie isn’t the only one who’s been trying a solo effort, as bandmate Vanessa White released her first solo song Relationship Goals last month, with her album expected to be released next year.
