US chat show star Chelsea Handler will take over from Russell Brand

Chelsea Handler is to host next month’s MTV Video Music Awards.

The chat show star, 35, reckons she’s perfect for the role.

‘This has been a huge year for hip-hop and rap, and it is well-known that
I have the closest ties with these communities – musically and
sexually,’ she jokes in a statement.

Chelsea is taking over from Russell Brand, who has presented the VMAs for the past 2 years.

She will become only the second woman to host the ceremony, following Roseanne Barr in 1994.

Lady Gaga, 24, is leading the way for this year’s nominations – she is up for 16 gongs.

The MTV Video Music Awards will take place at LA’s Nokia Theatre on 12 September.
