Giovanna Fletcher, the wife of McFly's Tom, shared the shocking experience with her social media followers

Right now, Giovanna Fletcher should be doing nothing more than enjoying spending time with her and husband Tom Fletcher‘s new bundle of joy, Buddy Bob.

But Giovanna has been forced to hit out after experiencing body-shaming at the hands of a near stranger less than two weeks after welcoming little Buddy into the world.

The new mum took to Instagram to share how the unknown person had pointed and laughed as they drew attention to her post-baby belly.

Sharing a snap that showed her still sporting a rounded stomach, Giovanna wrote: ‘A few days ago I had a near stranger point at my stomach, laugh and say ‘Oh look, Mummy’s still got her tummy’. This was eleven days after giving birth.’

She continued: ‘I was so shocked I laughed. But the words have stuck with me. Obviously. It wasn’t left there either as there was another comment about my face ‘slimming down’.

Gi – who had been married to McFly star Tom since 2012 – went on to say she was ‘baffled’ over the strangers actions, and pointed out that she has a very good reason for still having a baby bump.

‘More than anything, I was baffled over the stranger’s need to share her thoughts,’ she wrote.

‘Yes, I still have a bump. But that bump kept my little baby boy safe for a whole nine months. That bump has filled my world with even more love and light than I knew possible. That bump is a miracle worker.’

She ended: ‘My bump will slowly go over time, but I’ll never stop being thankful to it and my body for everything it’s given me. #spreadlove ❤️ xx’

A few days ago I had a near stranger point at my stomach, laugh and say 'Oh look, Mummy's still got her tummy'. This was eleven days after giving birth. I was so shocked I laughed. But the words have stuck with me. Obviously. It wasn't left there either as there was another comment about my face 'slimming down'. More than anything, I was baffled over the stranger's need to share her thoughts… Yes, I still have a bump. But that bump kept my little baby boy safe for a whole nine months. That bump has filled my world with even more love and light than I knew possible. That bump is a miracle worker… My bump will slowly go over time, but I'll never stop being thankful to it and my body for everything it's given me. #spreadlove ❤️ xx

Another added: ‘So well said @mrsgifletcher & you are looking amazing.’

Speaking about the experience a few days after posting this Instagram Giovanna said:

‘To be honest, it didn’t upset me too much, but it kind of stuck in my head for a few days as you can imagine. And the other morning, I had got out the shower, dealing with my leaky boobs, and putting cream in all sorts of places that you do after you have a baby… and I was stood in front of the mirror, hair scraped back, no makeup on, and actually what the comment did, is it made me kind of look at my body and go, ‘how do I feel about it?’…’how do I feel about this new body that’s changed after having two children?’… and actually, ‘it’s amazing’ was my thought and bodies are miracles, and the fact that my body has grown two children is just phenomenal, so I decided to share that and it’s made people share all sorts of stories which I really wasn’t expecting…’

On the lady who said the comments, Giovanna told This Morning:’I think that the lady who said it would be mortified that she’s upset me, I just think people say things and don’t really think about what they’re saying… and I know that that lady has children as well so I think she would be mortified and I do think that these things just fly out of our mouths sometimes. I think we just need to be a bit more careful. And it’s not even after the baby, it’s during pregnancy as well… there are so many women out there who can’t have children who would love to experience this body right now, and likewise, there are women out there who kind of ‘snap back’ – and I hate that phrase – but they snap back into their pre-birth bodies, and I don’t think either should be judged. Bodies are amazing, they do an amazing job and they should be celebrated.;

When asked what Tom thought about it, Giovanna confessed, ‘His jaw dropped. I just think neither of us could really believe that it was being said and I know that afterwards he kind of came back home and spoke to his mum and dad about it, so he was sharing it with more people than I was!’
