Hockey players get a royal surprise

The Queen has been popping up in some cute selfies taken at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Aussie hockey players Jayde Taylor and Brooke Peris were taking a picture of themselves yesterday when Her Majesty – who had been introduced to the team ahead of their opening game against Malaysia – accidentally appeared in the photo behind them.

But the Queen, 88, happily smiled for the camera, leaving the girls stunned.

‘Ahhh The Queen photo-bombed our selfie!!’ Jayde, 29, posted on Twitter.

‘#royalty #sheevensmiled #amazing #Glasgow2014 @Hockeyroos @AusComGames.’

The royal photobomb also happened to fellow Hockeyroos star Ashleigh Nelson.

‘Second selfie with the queen – lightning struck twice!!! What a smile #queenselfiechallenge,’ Ashleigh, 27, Tweeted with her snap.

The Queen attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony on Wednesday night to kick off the sporting event, which runs until 3 August.
