Victoria Beckham becomes 'social power broker' in this year's Debrett's guide
First she was called a singer, then a footballer’s wife – now Victoria Beckham has been elevated to ‘social power broker’ in Debrett’s People Of The Year book.
The guide – published annually – lists 100 people from all walks of life who the company’s experts believe have characterised the past year in Britain.
Among the more curious choices on the list is comedian Russell Brand, 31, who claims he was addicted to sex, drink and drugs.
After her battle with cancer, Kylie Minogue, 38, is simply credited as a ‘superstar’ while 45-year-old Ricky Gervais is a ‘comic genius’.
A Debrett’s spokesman told the Daily Mail: ‘Society picks out icons in a way that no individual PR or media machine can fully control, and this is reflected in the final selections.
‘The people in the book have all shaped something this year, or done something particularly interesting.’
