Royal family react to happy news

Prince Charles has spoken of his joy at becoming a granddad for the first time.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, both 31, welcomed a baby boy at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, yesterday afternoon at 4.24pm.

Charles and wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall are excited about meeting the new arrival.

Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild,’ Charles, 64, says in a statement from Clarence House.

It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.

Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.’

Charles was on an official visit to Yorkshire yesterday but claimed he knew ‘absolutely nothing’ about when the baby would arrive when asked by a member of the public.

The Queen is also very happy about becoming a great-grandmother again.

The Queen and Prince Philip are delighted at the news of the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s baby,‘ a Tweet from Buckingham Palace reads.
