Actress Reese Witherspoon says she regrets things she said
Reese Witherspoon has released a statement saying she is ‘deeply embarrassed’ by her arrest for disorderly conduct on Friday.
The actress, 37, was arrested for a verbal altercation with police just after husband Jim Toth was was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (known as a DUI in the US).
‘Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said,’ she said in a statement to US site TMZ.
‘It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that was no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behaviour.’
The couple were released on bond shortly after their arrest and a court appearance will take place at Atlanta Municipal Court today.
