Singer can't switch off feelings for the ex who beat her
The pair had a very public break-up in 2009 after Chris, 23, beat up Rihanna following an argument after a pre-Grammy party.
Yet despite the ‘humiliating’ incident, Ri-Ri can’t stop caring for her former boyfriend.
‘I truly love him – the main thing for me is he’s at peace,’ says Rihanna, 24.
‘I’m not at peace if he’s a little unhappy or he’s still lonely. I care. It actually matters that he finds that peace.
‘I think he’s the love of my life. We love each other and we probably always will. That’s not anything we’re gonna try to change.
‘It’s not something you can shut off if you’ve ever been in love. We built a trust again and that’s it.’
Rihanna admits that her continued love for Chris makes things difficult when they bump into each other.
The situation arose last month when the Umbrella singer came face-to-face with her ex during a holiday in St Tropez.
‘We went to a mutual friend’s party on a yacht,’ Ri-Ri tells Oprah Winfrey in a very honest TV interview.
‘It’s awkward because I still love him. My stomach drops and I have to maintain this poker face and not let it get to the outer part of me.
‘I have to maintain that and suppress it and interpret that and understand that is not going to go away.’
