Sam Smith says he's 'extremely proud' that he can help raise money for Comic Relief joining the likes of David Walliams and Cheryl

If 2015 belongs to any man, it’s Sam Smith. Officially Everyone’s Favourite Singer, Sam has already won four Grammys and two Brits this year (we’re only in March!) and is now teaming up with another legend for this year’s official Red Nose Day single.

John Legend – who hasn’t had a bad start to 2015 either, after winning an Oscar last month for his song Glory – is collaborating with Sam for the single. They’re reworking Lay Me Down, one of the track’s off Sam’s multi-platinum debut album In the Lonely Hour. And ALL profits will go to Comic Relief.

The charity is pulling out all the stops to rasie record-breaking millions Red Nose Day this Friday 13th March, to help poor and vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives in the UK and across Africa.

Dermot O’Leary is currently sleeping rough in Kenya with homeless teenagers to raise awareness, Daniel Craig has filmed a one-off James bond sketch, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini competes for ‘National Treasure 2015’ and David Walliams repirses Little Britain’s Lou for a special sketch with Professor Stephen Hawking!

Sam said: ‘Lay Me Down holds a very special place in my heart, not only did I perform it at the Brits I’m now going to perform it live on the Red Nose Day show with the extremely talented John Legend which is so exciting.

‘I recently visited a Comic Relief funded project in my home town which supports the young LGBT community in London, I’m extremely proud that my single will help raise money for projects like this and many others in the UK and across Africa.’

The pair recorded the ballad together in Los Angeles and will perform the together for the first and only time on Comic Relief – Face the Funny.

Well, that’s music to our ears!

The track is available from today to download on iTunes.
