Mourners celebrate the actor's life by the side of the ocean

Heath Ledger’s remains have been cremated in Fremantle, Australia.

Hundreds of mourners gathered for a memorial service at Penrhos College before Michelle Williams joined Heath’s family for a more intimate service at Fremantle Cemetery, just outside Perth.

For privacy, the chapel was blacked out with sheets.

Michelle read William Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18 (“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”).

‘It was a very emotional service,’ a source tells Perth Now.

The grieving loved ones then headed to the Indiana Tea House on Cottesloe Beach, where they joined those who had said goodbye to Heath at Penrhos College.

Michelle was crying but other mourners at the wake were keen to celebrate Heath’s life and drank beer and red and white wine by the side of the ocean.
