Fraudsters try to cash in on actor's death
Heath Ledger’s family are said to be furious that fake mementos are being sold in LA souvenir shops.
It is thought posters from his final film The Dark Knight and ‘signed’ photographs of him are being sold to unwitting members of the public.
‘[Heath’s family] are appalled and deeply saddened that Heath’s name is being used to hoodwink genuine fans,’ a friend reveals. ‘They’re furious that pirates are cashing in on his death.’
A Warner Bros spokesperson has confirmed the claims. ‘We are horrified by these acts of theft and fraud,’ the rep tells the Daily Star Sunday.
‘Fans are being duped. There are no Dark Knight posters or memorabilia connected to the movie on sale yet. We are investigating how they have been pirated.’
Heath, 28, died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs at his Manhattan apartment on 22 January.
He left behind a 2-year-old daughter Matilda, from his relationship with ex-fiancée Michelle Williams.
