Actor loses fight against cancer

Roy Scheider has passed away at the age of 75 after a 4-year battle with cancer.

The actor had been fighting multiple myeloma – a cancer of the plasma cells – and died in an Arkansas hospital on Sunday.

A spokesman did not specify the cause of death.

Roy starred in 1975 blockbuster Jaws as a police chief who saves a beach resort from a Great White shark.

He received 2 Oscar nominations, one for Best Supporting Actor in The French Connection (1971) and one for his starring role in All That Jazz (1979).

The dad-of-three was married to second wife Brenda.
