Nine years after their civil partnership ceremony, Sir Elton John and David Furnish married in an Instagram-tastic ceremony
After spending the last nine years in a civil partnership, Sir Elton John and David Furnish tied the knot yesterday with a lavish wedding ceremony.
The grooms made sure every detail of their big day was documented – but not by the usual means of a wedding photographer. Instead, they posted snaps on Instagram so their fans could celebrate with them, under the hashtag #sharethelove.
No detail was too private to be ‘grammed. The cake, the menu, Sir Elton and David‘s young son Elijah looking adorably dapper in a mini suit – and, of course, a stream of all-star selfies from the army of celebrity guests.
Ed Sheeran, who already has a ginger mop and musical talent in common with Sir Elton, tried on the legendary singer’s sunglasses as he fooled around with the grooms, Kate Bush, Lulu and Gary Barlow. As you do.
Elton himself was also uploading plenty of snaps – he kicked off the proceedings by posting an image of a wedding invitation on his Instagram, inviting his followers to share in the festivities. Underneath a picture of him and David signing the register, he wrote:
‘That’s the legal bit done! Now onto the ceremony!’
David Furnish himself also took to Instagram, and uploaded a picture of him and Elton walking down the aisle with the caption ‘Mister and mister.’
Since same-sex marriage was legalised back in March, the Furnish-John household has reportedly been in full-on wedding planning mode, finally marrying on the ninth anniversary of their civil partnership. Their efforts clearly paid off: each table was adorned with an enormous bouquet of red roses, and the guests’ name tags – the Beckhams‘ placeholders also appeared on Instagram – were handwritten.
Super congrats to Sir Elton and David, and thanks for letting us #sharethelove!
