GBBO's resident heartthrob Tamal Ray has broken female fans' hearts by revealing he's looking for a boyfriend, not a girlfriend

Female fans of the Great British Bake Off will be feeling more deflated than a cake taken out of the over too early this morning after the show’s resident heartthrob, Tamal Ray, revealed he is gay – and on the look out a boyfriend.

Asked by the Radio Times whether he had a girlfriend, tasty Tamil replied: ‘I wouldn’t have a girlfriend, I would have a boyfriend, but I am single at the moment.’

He added: ‘Although I have had a few offers on Twitter.’

The 29-year-old baker – who describes himself on Twitter as a ‘fuzzy haired doctor and lover of cake’ – won the hearts of the GBBO audience with his doe eyes, gentle manner and sweet nature (he rang his mum after winning Star Baker, for crying out loud!), sending female viewers into a frenzy on Twitter.

The trainee anaesthetist turned killer-cake-maker has been bombarded with tweets from women proclaiming their love for him on the social media site, much to his amusement.

One fan wrote: ‘Oh Tamal… you are my pastry prince!’

Another added: ‘Tamal makes me feel things that I’ve never felt before.’

And a rather amusing third chimed in: ‘Tamal can assemble my biscuit box and pipe his icing on it.’

And the Mancunian man-hunk responded to the tweets, writing: ‘Some of the lustier tweets have had me crying with laughter. Also glad my folks aren’t on twitter! #GBBO #blushingbaker

Two weeks after finally being named Star Baker for his Middle Eastern-inspired game pie and incredible Charlotte Russe showstopper, Tamal has made it through to the final four on the BBC One show.

With just two weeks left to go, he faces competition from Flora Shedden, Ian Cumming and Nadiya Hussain in the battle to be crowned this year’s Bake Off champion.
