Our favourite 90's dating show is making a comeback and we're SO excited
Ever since Cilla Black brought us the original Saturday night match-making programme Blind Date, we’ve all been hooked on the awkward meetings and unexpected hook-ups of dating shows.
A few years on and we’ve seen couples get very flirty in the Love Island villa, be charmed by bearded Maitre D, Fred Sirieix on First Dates and try everything they can to avoid a blackout on Take Me Out.
But now our dating-show prayers have been answered after it was revealed 90’s classic, Streetmate would be returning for a brand new series this year – with Gogglebox fave Scarlett Moffatt as the host. YAY!
The show recently made a comeback for Stand Up to Cancer’s telethon and proved to be such a hit that Channel 4 bosses decided to make another series – so we’ve rounded up EVERYTHING you need to know to make sure you don’t miss a thing.
So what is it?
For those of you who need reminding, Streetmate was the iconic show which saw telly star Davina McCall frantically trawl the streets looking for a random member of the public to set up with another random member of the public… Amazing, right? The hilariously awkward programme ran for three years from 1998 to 2001 before being re-booted in 2007 with This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby standing in as host.
During the episodes Davina would ambush a bunch of unsuspecting singletons before attempting to find them romance – once she’d bagged them a date, the lucky pair would come back and tell us all about their evening.
What’s not to love?
THIS is what’s different about the new series
Unfortunately Davina won’t be returning to her role as cupid (sad face), but luckily popular Geordie Scarlett Moffatt is all set to fill her shoes.
The I’m A Celeb winner is storming our TV’s at the moment proving to be a MASSIVE hit on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and has even signed a major new book deal, so we’re pretty sure she’s going to absolutely smash her new job.
And it looks like the 26-year-old is pretty excited about the whole thing as well as she recently revealed: ‘I remember watching Davina on Streetmate when I was younger and thinking females can present entertainment shows too, I want to do that when I’m older.
‘It’s such a fun show and it’s two of my favourite things to do, chat to randomers and a love story.’
You could be on the show
Yup, that’s right… If you’re single and over the age of 18 YOU could be joining Scarlett on a quest to pick up a date from the streets of Great Britain.
Posting a photo on her Twitter page, Scarlett shared all the details with her 537k followers along with the caption: ‘Can’t wait to present streetmate!! Apply here my lovelies
So, fancy a go? Just send in an application form and you could be one step closer to finding love…
It’ll hit our screens later this year
While we don’t know the exact time the new show will air in the UK – because the release date hasn’t been announced yet – we DO know it’ll be on our screens later this very year which means we only have a few short months to wait.
When it does make a much anticipated comeback, Streetmate will be shown on it’s original home of Channel 4.
Excited as we are? Let us know what you think @Celebsnow!
