How the Duchess of Cambridge had special training ahead of her first speech

It was the biggest moment yet for the Duchess of Cambridge in her new role as a royal: her first public speech.

And Now’s learnt that Kate Middleton was secretly so nervous about addressing the crowd at the Treehouse hospice in Ipswich earlier this week, she begged the Palace for help in the run-up to it – and found herself in scenes straight out of hit film The King’s Speech.

The Duchess, 30, spent hours undergoing public speaking training with the help of Prince Charles and a royal advisor – just like King George VI, who was portrayed by Colin Firth in the Oscar-winning movie.

An insider says: You need to remember that Kate had never spoken publicly before, so it’s understandable that she was nervous.

‘She was stressed about stumbling over her words and letting herself down. So she asked her advisors for training in the hope that it’d raise her confidence levels.’
