Claudia Winkleman says that NHS staff have been 'absolutely incredible' after daughter Matilda was hospitalised

Zoe Ball will replace Claudia Winkleman once again on Strictly Come Dancing this weekend after it has emerged her daughter was hospitalised as a result of a freak candle accident.

Claudia‘s eight-year-old daughter Matilda’s Halloween costume caught fire on Friday night at a party which meant the star had to back out of her presenting job alongside Tess Daly at the last minute.

The 42-year-old mum of three has released a statement on behalf of herself and husband Kris Thykier, explaining the situation and thanking everyone who is thinking of them during this tough time.

‘Our daughter was involved in an accident on Friday night while celebrating Halloween. She is having the best care possible and we are hopeful of a full recovery,’ the statement reads.

‘We would like to thank everyone that has been so supportive and particularly the NHS doctors, nurses and staff who have been absolutely incredible.’

The star – who also has sons Jake, 11, and Arthur, three – added that those following developments in the story should take care, especially ahead of Bonfire Night on Wednesday.

‘We would like to take this opportunity to remind anyone taking part in fireworks parties or Guy Fawkes celebrations to be vigilant about the dangers of candles, open fires and fireworks and to please have the appropriate safety measures in place and to hand.’

It is believed her child’s costume caught fire after connecting with a candle.

With Claudia taking time out to be with her daughter Matilda for now, the BBC has confirmed Zoe will fill in for her this Saturday.

‘Zoe Ball will co-host Strictly Come Dancing this weekend. All our thoughts and very best wishes are with Claudia and her family at this time,’ the BBC told Now in a statement.
