George Clooney has met his match

George Clooney‘s wooed countless models, actresses and cocktail waitresses over the years. But more than two decades on from his first – and only – marriage ending, George is finally settling down after proposing to Lebanon-born British barrister Amal Alamuddin last month.

It’s a bit of a shock since the couple were only spotted out together for the first time in October when they enjoyed a romantic meal at London’s Berners Tavern.

Now, six months on, Amal, 36, has managed to do what seemed virtually impossible and lock down bachelor George, 53.

So why now? Why Amal?

Here, we take a look at the 6 factors that prove exactly why she’s more than a match for George!

1 She’s a power player

George might be an Oscar-winning actor, but Amal‘s no small fry!

In fact, the legal eagle’s so successful in her field that she’s represented infamous WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in his extradition proceedings in Sweden.

Insiders have said that she’s unfazed by George‘s high-profile group of friends and she’s incredibly discreet too, only letting her inner circle know about her relationship with the Hollywood A-lister.

2 She’s as charitable as he is

George is one of Hollywood’s biggest human rights activists and a keen charity supporter.

Meanwhile, Amal is a human rights lawyer who’s advised former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Syria and represented Ukraine’s former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

She also belongs to a panel, supported by Angelina Jolie, that aims to prevent sexual violence in war zones. Even her nickname when she was studying at Oxford was apparently ‘Just Cause’ as she was so passionate about human rights. Bet the pair have some deep and meaningful dinner conversations.

3 She made him wait

Considered one of the sexiest men alive, George is used to being fawned over.

Amal refused to take his number at a charity event last September and waited a few days to reply to an email from George cheekily stating: ‘I think the reported hottest man in the world should meet with the hottest human rights lawyer in the world’.

Amal rejected him twice before agreeing to go on a date, saying she was ‘too busy’.

‘She was operating on the lines of “treat ’em mean, keep ’em keen” and it clearly worked for her,’ a source says.

George was beguiled by her and Amal had the upper hand.’

4 She’s got brains and beauty

Amal‘s officially the capital’s sexiest lawyer after securing the No 1 spot on the 21 Hottest Barristers In London list on hit legal blog Your Barrister Boyfriend.

5 She makes him feel like a teenager

An onlooker who witnessed the couple taking a romantic stroll hand in hand on a beach in the Seychelles in March described the usually cool actor as behaving like ‘a nervous teenager’.

The eyewitness said: ‘George was hanging on her every word and looking at her like she was the only woman in the world.’

6 She’s a hit with his parents

George‘s folks Nina, 74, and Nick, 80, first met Amal last year.

‘I like her very much,’ says Nina.

‘They share a sense of fun and they’re both caring.’

When asked if Amal‘s like the other girls her son’s dated – who include a WWE wrestler and a Vegas waitress – Nina said: ‘Heavens, no! She’s a lawyer. She’s brilliant. She’s very bright and at the top of her career.’
