Warning: sensitive beard content below
When Amy Schumer posted a holiday picture on Instagram earlier this week, she probably didn’t expect it to get so much attention.
And funnily enough, it wasn’t even the content of the picture that was causing a ruckus – more her caption, which some people read as some serious shade-throwing to Taylor Swift.

To recap: on Tuesday, Amy posted a picture of herself and a friend on the beach in bikinis. Since Taylor’s slim legs were a talking point of Monday night’s GRAMMY awards, Amy thought it would be funny to comment on her own picture with: ‘Taylor that’s not a thigh gap. This is a thigh gap’.
To many, this was an innocent example of Amy using her sarcastic brand of humour to poke a little fun at herself. However, some Taylor Swift fans were up in arms at the idea that anyone would use her name in vain, and wasted no time in leaving a stream of angry comments on Amy’s picture.
One ‘Swiftie’ wrote: ‘So body shaming, skinny or fat. Not okay,’ while another wrote: ‘Wow just wow how rude can a person get.’
According to Amy, she wasn’t making fun of T-Swizzle in the slightest:
‘That’s not a beard this is a beard. So sorry to anyone with a beard this may offend. I am a comic and should never make fun of myself at the expense of anyone else that I wasn’t making fun of in the first place. #relax #beard’
The whole point of the joke was on Amy herself – just as we thought!
For now, Taylor hasn’t commented on the situation – so it’s likely that she’s not offended. So until we hear otherwise, maybe we should all take a leaf out of Amy’s book by simply chilling out. Beard makeup – optional.
