Cheryl and Rita had a secret war over No 1 song... three years ago!
They look pretty cosy now, but new X Factor judges Rita Ora and Cheryl seem to have conveniently forgotten a Twitter rant that went down nearly three years ago, which could make for some very awkward moments in The X Factor green room.
Back in 2012, it seems Rita told the world she’d been given first dibs on Chezza’s mega hit single Call My Name, but that she’d rejected it.
Rita’s reported to have said: ‘I heard Call My Name quite a while ago because I was offered it. I turned it down. I do like the song but I didn’t want to sing it cos it’s not really me. I don’t want to go down the dance route that a lot of other pop stars are doing. I prefer to have my own sound and do my own thing.’
Her cutting comments suggest she reckons her music has more integrity than Cheryl’s. Ouch!
Luckily, the single went on to be a mega hit for Cheryl, 31, – who used to be called Cheryl Cole but is now Cheryl Fernandez-Versini – becoming the fastest selling No 1 single of 2012.
And whether or not Cheryl took the comments to heart, she didn’t react publicly to them. However, the song’s producer Calvin Harris, 31, accused Rita of lying, saying: ‘For the record, Call My Name was never given to Rita Ora to sing…she made that up, don’t know why,’ and adding: ‘It was a disrespectful comment, that’s all.’
Rita waved the white flag, saying: ‘I hate beef and fighting. So I love u all @calvinharris call me I’ll explain what actually happened. They twisted it.’
We can only assume that the chat went very well when he finally did call, as the pair ended up dating in 2013!
