Tom Hardy has explained why he reacted so strongly to being questioned over his sexuality...

It was awkward.

And when we say awkward, we’re talking one hell of a massive scoop of the stuff- probably served with a big ol’ side of ‘awks’ and a large cup of ‘yeah, this is pretty tense’ to wash it all down.

We’re referring, of course, to the Legend press interview in which Tom Hardy reacted pretty strongly to being questioned about his sexuality.

During the event, a reporter asked the 38-year-old if he ‘finds it hard to celebrities to talk to the media about their sexuality’- to which Tom replied ‘what on earth are you on about’, before proceeding to shut the question down.

The actor has since spoken out about the awkvent (awkward event), and why he was left so offended.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Tom says ‘that really, really annoyed me. It was just the inelegance of being asked in a room full of people’.

He continued, ‘Now I’m happy to have a conversation… at a reasonable time, about anything. I’m confident in my own sexuality, and I’m also confident in my own being and talking about any issue you want to talk about it. But there is a time and a place for that’.

Tom added that he found the experience ‘humiliating’, and explained the damagingly negative backlash the question could have on many- ‘It’s so important to the LGBT [community] that people actually feel safe about their sexuality and are able to speak freely and not be stigmatised or feel like they are being pointed out’.

‘Why point me out, assuming that I’m gay because I’m ambiguous about it, which I’m very clear if you look into what I’ve said in the past’.

The question was in reference to an interview with Attitude magazine back in 2008, in which the actor openly discussed past sexual relations with male partners. Tom is currently portraying the Kray twins in Legend, one of whom is homosexual.
