Actress Vanessa Hudgens speaks of how she ‘hates’ cancer in an emotional acceptance speech

Vanessa Hudgens has revealed that her dad is battling stage four cancer in a moving speech at an awards ceremony.

The 26-year-old actress shared the heartbreaking news about former firefighter Greg when collecting the Breakthrough Performer accolade at the Industry Dance Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday night and gave a powerful acceptance speech.

In her talk Vanessa spoke of how her father’s devastating battle comes after her boyfriend Austin Butler tragically lost his mum to the disease in 2014.

‘If you would have asked me two years ago what I thought of cancer, I would have said, “Man, it sucks, it’s a horrible disease,”’ the High School Musical star said.

‘But that was only because I had not been faced with it personally.

‘Last year, my boyfriend, Austin, lost his mom, Lori, to cancer, and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with stage four cancer.’

Vanessa then became highly emotional as she expressed her feelings about the illness.

‘Let me tell you, I hate cancer. I hate cancer with every cell of my being,’ she explained as she got visibly choked up.

‘This award, it means a lot to me but I dedicate it to my boyfriend’s mom, Lori, my dad, and to all the families out there who are struggling with this, because it really takes a strong person and a strong family to be able to help those out who are going through this.’

Vanessa also showed her support for the charity Circle Of Hope, which helps those in the dance industry affected by cancer.

It’s the first time that Vanessa has spoken of her dad’s diagnosis, despite causing concern from fans last month when she shared a photo with him on Instagram and wrote: ‘My daddy and I ❤️❤️❤️ Please pray for his healing!!! The more prayers the better. ’

Our thoughts are with Vanessa and her family at this difficult time.
