Peter Andre opens up as he backs Cancer Research UK's TrustFord penny auction
It’s been two and a half years since Peter Andre tragically lost his brother Andrew to cancer and the pain still lives on for the family
Pete, 42, has emotionally opened up about the heartache of his sibling’s death and admits that he thinks Andrew might still have been here if his illness had been discovered sooner.
‘I lost my brother from cancer and as a family we really felt, had his cancer been detected early, it could have saved his life,’ the singer admits.
‘And that is the message we’re trying to get to people.’
Andrew was just 54 when he lost his battle with kidney cancer in December 2012, leaving Pete and the Andre family devastated.
Pete is now keen to spread the word that early detection can save lives. He’s urging anybody who’s worried about their symptoms to go to their doctor.
‘If you think something’s wrong, go and get checked up,’ the dad-of-three says.
‘It not only can save your life but in turn it will save all the heartache that your friends and family will go through seeing you go through such a horrible thing.’
Pete made his moving statement whilst participating in a fundraising event for Cancer Research UK.
The TV star – who has his own fund which raises money for the charity – has been working with TrustFord as part of a penny auction. The event sees four Ford cars go up for auction on eBay all with a starting price of just 1p.
Despite admitting that he’s not particularly artistic, Pete used his design skills on one of the vehicles to create a unique hand-designed paintwork with help from his brother Mike and road manager Carl. The striking car will be one of those going up for auction.
‘Designing the car for the penny auction was so much fun,’ says Pete.
‘I got everybody involved, including my brother Mike and road manager Carl, and I have to say we were pretty pleased with the results!
‘I’m hoping people will dig deep to bid on this car, not only will you drive away in something truly unique but it will raise vital funds for the Peter Andre Fund which supports Cancer Research UK‘s life-saving work.’
The auction starts at midnight on Friday 22 May. Visit www.ebay.co.uk/usr/trustford for more info.
