Zayn Malik is rushed back home to the UK suffering ‘stress’
One Direction might seem like they have the world at their feet but the perils of fame took another victim today when Zayn Malik quit their current world tour and was flown back home to the UK because of ‘stress’.
Zayn, 22, faced another bout of cheating allegations this week following pictures of him holding hand with blonde fan, Lauren Richardson, outside a nightclub in Phuket, Thailand. The snaps were posted by a 1D fan, leading many to question how loyal he is to current fiancée, Little Mix‘s Perrie Edwards and brandish him a ‘cheat’ and a ‘womaniser’.
Defending himself, Zayn took to Twitter. ‘I’m 22 years old… I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there’s a lot of jealous f***s in this world I’m sorry for what it looks like,’ he wrote.
One day later, it was reported he had been signed off the One Direction tour because of stress. He pulled out of a planned Coca-Cola commercial shoot in Hong Kong in order to return to the UK to spend time with his family.
A source told The Sun: ‘Zayn finds it tougher than the rest of his band-mates dealing with fame. Having his every movement scrutinised causes great anxiety and the pictures which surfaced with the fan yesterday was the final straw. He did nothing wrong but the amount of criticism he received was simply too much. He needs to get away. The band’s management accept he needs some time off so he’s been sent home with their blessing.’
But fans fears for the star are slowly increasing as this isn’t the first time Zayn has seemed unhappy with fame and being in the band.
In August 2012 he sensationally quit Twitter leaving some of his 5 million followers in tears. This came after a video was leaked of him and fellow bandmate Louis Tomlinson supposedly smoking weed while in South America.
Before he quit the social networking site the then 19-year-old tweeted: ‘The reason i don’t tweet as much as i use to, is because I’m sick of all the useless opinions and hate that i get daily goodbye twitter 🙂
‘My fans that have something nice to say can tweet me on the one direction account , 🙂 x’
When fans asked how he was doing, Zayn said: ‘Don’t worry about me, im fine. i just deleted my account because of all the hate i was getting just by tweeting something simple.
‘And all the rumours of me smoking weed and cheating. i dont need to read any of that negativity.’
Soon after that, when he was asked what he missed about his pre-fame life, Zayn tellingly said: ‘The fact that you could literally go anywhere, say anything and no-one will judge you for it.
‘Now, if I was seen going to do something stupid like go to a kids’ playhouse or something to be childish, people would look at me strangely.’
Numerous reports dating back to 2012 have claimed the Bradford-raised singer was ‘sick of fame’ and often suffered with crippling homesickness. ‘His family are so close and he hates that he never gets to see them,’ an insider said.
A spokesman for the band said: ‘Zayn has signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate. The band wish him well and will continue with their performances in Manila and Jakarta.’
Zayn will miss three of the band’s remaining Fast East gigs but hopes to return for their concert in Cape Town on March 28.
Let’s hope Zayn rests up and gets better soon.
