It's week 39 in Kate Middleton's pregnancy and her bladder is under more pressure than ever
Every week in the Royal Bump Watch Newsletter, we bring you the latest Kate Middleton and Prince William news, as well as what’s going on with HRB (His Royal Babyness) Baby Wales – yes, let’s call it a ‘he’ in this blog!
Kate Middleton, is now in her last week of pregnancy. Her son could be born at any time, so let’s hope Prince William, who wants to drive his wife to hospital, has filled the car with petrol and checked that the battery isn’t flat!
Kate‘s bladder is now under more pressure than ever. Her cervix is ripening and her body is prepared for the birth.
The Duchess of Cambridge may now be feeling nervous about spotting the onset of labour – she doesn’t want to panic over a false alarm.
Strong regular contractions that get worse when you move around are the most reliable sign that the baby’s on its way.
Other indications include the waters breaking as the amniotic membrane ruptures – and a bloody show as mucus that plugged the cervical canal is dislodged.
So, how’s Baby Wales doing right now?
Hardly any lanugo (fine downy hair) will be on the little prince, except perhaps on his shoulders and in the creases of his chubby baby body.
Baby Wales‘s umbilical cord is now about 2cm thick, and as long as he is.
A few of Kate‘s antibodies will cross the placenta stream and enter his body. This will give his immune system a temporary boost until it gets into full swing, and these will disappear within six months.
How much does he weigh? The Royal baby weighs around 7lb 2oz (3.25 kg). That’s a lot of weight to carry for our slim Duchess.
What’s he up to? The future prince is quite squashed in his mummy’s tummy, so there’s no room for activities. His limbs are pressed close against his head and trunk and his head is touching Kate‘s cervix. Baby Wales is in position!
Amazing fact! Baby Wales‘s toenails now reach the end of his little toes!
