1D singer Liam Payne should be allowed to get some sleep

Has there ever been a more grovelling apology in boy band history than the one Liam Payne Tweeted to One Direction fans at the weekend?

The 19-year-old penned an open letter saying he was sorry after he spotted some cruel banners about himself at a recent 1D gig in America.

Acknowledging that some Directioners might be feeling ‘a little unappreciated’, Liam Tweeted: ‘Saw some signs about me tonight that where a bit upsetting dont know whats happend but i hope I’m good with you guys.

‘I hope you know how grateful I am that you guys have done all of this for us because i genuinely can’t believe how lucky I am to be here.’

Pretty wet, right? #cringe

It’s been speculated that the One Direction fans at the concert were upset with Liam over a Twitter rant he made last month about people ringing the phone in his hotel room while he was trying to sleep.

So let me get this straight: he’s released a remorseful statement because his supporters were upset that HE WAS UPSET WITH THEM? How does that even make sense?!

Surely Liam‘s the one who’s due an apology? I think he was in the right to rant about the late-night hotel phone calls – and he certainly shouldn’t have had to say sorry for doing so.

In my book, finding out where a celebrity (who you don’t know personally!) is staying, obtaining the telephone number for their suite and then ringing them in the early hours is a bit ‘stalkerish’. Did someone say restraining order?

Liam may be in the spotlight, but it isn’t acceptable to bombard him with calls (to a phone number he hasn’t given you) to tell him how much you adore One Direction when he’s sleeping.

He’s entitled to a private life and a good night’s kip – just like the rest of us!

At the time of the calls, Liam Tweeted: Next time it’s ur day off school nd u fancy a ly in il call u n see how u like it? Why? I’m sorry for being mad but I do t get to sleep all that often cuz we travel every day the one day I don’t have to travel.’

You can’t deny he has a point. A very reasonable point.

So, Directioners, cut poor Liam some slack (and maybe Tweet him an apology to show him you still love him).
