Dan Wootton's weekly blog Behind the Interview: What MIC's Lucy was REALLY like on our shoot
At 22, she’s beautiful, articulate and completely unafraid of saying exactly what she thinks, no matter what the consequence.
When I met with her recently to discuss the breakdown of her relationship with the show’s serial love cheat Spencer Matthews, she didn’t pull any punches.
Despite being one of the most desirable reality stars in the UK (buy this week’s magazine to see her size zero figure in all its glory), she was prepared to admit that she had been unable to tame Spencer.
In fact, quite the opposite. She revealed matter of factly that the former star of The Bachelor cheated on her with eight different women in just two months, with his first indiscretion coming just 72 hours after they first got together in Barcelona.
The reaction I’ve had to the interview on Twitter is that Lucy should always have realised Spencer was going to cheat, based on his very public past behaviour (he even admitted to sleeping with another woman in the bed of his ex-girlfriend Louise Thompson).
When I put this to Lucy, she responded: Even though he had a reputation, I didn’t think it was fair to judge him on his past. I feel like I will be the girl that changes him because I’m not going to take him back. As far as I’m aware, he’s quite distraught about that.’
For his part, Spencer isn’t giving up on Lucy quite yet, suggesting in a new interview today that the pair are still in contact.
But Lucy is scornful of his attempts to try and get her back. ‘I laughed in his face at that,’ she tells me. ‘He’s lost me.’
I hope she holds firm on that plan. Lucy is one girl who most certainly doesn’t deserve to be walked all over.
