With Olly Murs quitting The Xtra Factor, who'll partner Caroline Flack? (My money's on Rylan...)
Olly Murs and Caroline Flack – the best ‘husband and wife’ double act on TV – are no more! Sob.
Let’s face the facts, Olly Murs is first and foremost a pop star. When he got the job as a presenter on the The Xtra Factor it was a bit of a surprise, as it’s generally thought of as something a pop star would only do if their music career wasn’t going so well.
So it makes sense that after touring with One Direction, and with his albums selling well on both sides of the pond, that he’d want to concentrate on the music.
This leaves The Xtra Factor producers in a casting turmoil – especially because the chemistry between Olly and his ‘TV wife’ Caroline Flack is so good.
They’re both natural presenters who are the same off screen as they are on which is what makes them so funny and appealing. You can’t force that kind of banter (take note Khloe Kardashian).
So while it’s a shame Olly is departing, it makes sense. If he’s to make it big in America he needs to dedicate proper time to do it and co-presenting a magazine show has to come second.
The question now is – who’ll be his replacement? I’ve no doubts they’ll want to keep Caroline on and if they don’t decide she can front it solo then they’ll want somebody who can slip into Olly‘s tight trews with ease.
Sure Rylan‘s about to start on his own music career but with the best will in the world I think presenting will be more successful for him.
He was definitely the novelty act on last year’s X Factor and although his voice is passable, I’m not sure he’ll be taken seriously enough to actually sell albums by the truck load!
The show is still months away so that gives Rylan time to release a single, do a mini tour and then be home in time for Xtra. There is talk of him possibly doing Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit On The Side which would be a good gig but not quite as high profile.
