Dan Wootton's new weekly blog 'Behind The Interview' where we find out what the celebrity was REALLY like
TODAY I revealed the winners of my annual awards for 2012 in a 12-page special in Now, which is on shelves now.
Among the popular decisions were One Direction winning Best Music Act in the World, Paralympian Jonnie Peacock being named Hottest Sportsman and Little Mix just beating Girls Aloud to Best Girl Band, their first ever award.
However, many of you have criticised the choice of Tulisa as Best Judge (the brilliant Nicole Scherzinger was named runner-up in the category).
While the N-Dubz star has certainly had a torrid year, from a sex tape to being branded a home wrecker’, it was how she dealt with adversity that impressed me.
How many young celebrities could cope with millions of people watching such an intimate video online and then keep her dignity while responding with a powerful YouTube video of her own?
And how many would have a witty and damning comeback to Gary Barlow just seconds after he’s told the nation she had fag ash breath’?
When I met up with Tulisa to present her award recently, it was clear to me she’s learned a lot from 2012.
Her answer when I asked if she would have done anything differently was telling. No. Everything I’ve done, I’ve done for a reason. I have to learn from it all. I wouldn’t take back anything. As much as I might be unhappy at times, I know I’m becoming wiser and stronger.’
Tulisa‘s new man, Newcastle pro footballer Danny Simpson, was by her side and seemed a very amiable bloke.
They’re certainly besotted with each other. We’re really happy,’ Tulisa confirmed. We knew from the start it was going to be a proper relationship. People wanted to rip us apart but he wasn’t going to lie to me.’
It’s become fashionable to slag Tulisa off in 2012. I hope that stops now. She’s a self-made success story who’s gone from the streets of Camden to buying a £6 million mansion. She’s the first to admit she’s a little rough around the edges, but what on earth is wrong with that?
As for 2013, Tulisa has big plans. It’s my year to be happy. No one’s going to stop me. 2013 is going to be my year.’
