Born to parents Christine and Raymond, Ant McPartlin was raised by his mother in Newcastle upon Tyne.

He has a sister called Sarha and a half-sister called Emma.

Ant attended Wingrove Primary School in Fenham, Newcastle before making his TV debut on the children’s programme Why Don’t You? at the age of 13.

He found fame the following year in the Children’s BBC series Byker Grove.

It was on the show that Ant first met Declan Donnelly, who would go on to be his best friend and the other half of his double-act.

The duo became known as PJ & Duncan, which were the names of the characters they played. After leaving the soap, PJ & Duncan launched their music career.

Their first single was called Tonight I’m Free and the pair went on to record two albums.

Let’s Get Ready To Rhumble was their most famous hit under their character names, earning a BRIT Award nomination.

Their third album, which featured the smash hit Shout, was released under their real names Ant & Dec.

Ant McPartlin met future wife Lisa Armstrong while performing at Newcastle City Hall in 1994. He was there as part of PJ & Duncan and Lisa was in the pop band Deuce.

Ant & Dec got their first presenting job in the same year, while they were still releasing music.

The duo co-presented CITV’s show Gimme 5 for two series before it was dropped.
ITV signed the pair in August 1998 and within weeks they began presenting Saturday morning programmes SMTV Live and CD:UK alongside friend Cat Deeley.

Since then, the pals have hosted together on programmes such as Pop Idol, Britain’s Got Talent, I’m A Celebrity! and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

On 22 July 2006, Ant McPartlin married make-up artist Lisa at Cliveden, a hotel in Buckinghamshire.
