McFly star Dougie Poynter was born in Corringham in 1987. He has a younger sister called Jazzie.

Dougie went to Gable Hill Performing Arts School and formed a band called Ataiz.

At the age of 15, he joined McFly. Dougie says his dad walked out on the family around the same time.

The singer and guitarist moved in with his new bandmates Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones and Harry Judd. They released their first single 5 Colours In Her Hair in 2004 and it reached No 1 in the UK Singles Chart.

Dougie Poynter and McFly continued to experience huge success. Their debut album Room On The 3rd Floor topped the chart, making the boys the youngest band to have their first record go straight to No 1.

More albums, tours and hit singles followed. The lads even appeared alongside Lindsay Lohan in 2006 movie Just My Luck.

Dougie started dating The Saturdays’ Frankie Sandford in 2009. They split in March 2010 before getting back together but broke up for good later in the year.

In March 2011 it was announced that Dougie was in rehab. He later revealed that he had been battling drink and drug problems and had even tried to take his own life before seeking treatment.

The singer embarked on another tour with McFly before competing in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in November 2011, which he went on to win.

That year, he launched his own clothing line called Saint Kidd Clothing Co.  

In 2012 Dougie Poynter and his bandmates released a greatest hits compilation and a group autobiography.

Dougie and Tom also published a children’s book called The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas. They later wrote further titles in the series.

McFly teamed up with Busted stars James Bourne and Matt Willis in 2013 to create supergroup McBusted. The band embarked on a hugely popular tour.

Dougie began a relationship with singer Ellie Goulding in 2014.
