Gemma Collins was born to parents Joan and Alan Collins, who are both from Dagenham.

Before finding fame on the BAFTA award-winning The Only Way Is Essex, she studied at Rise Park Infants School, Rise Park Junior School and the Frances Bardsley Academy For Girls.

She later became a student at Raphael Independent School, where her future co-star Amy Childs was also educated.

Having attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School as a child, Gemma always had dreams of being a performer.

She secured a role in a theatre production of The Sound Of Music, entered singing and dancing competitions and was picked to represent England in a show in the Czech Republic.

Starting work in London, Gemma began in an admin position. She then moved up until she got a job as assistant to one of the senior executives at stockbrokers Cantor Fitzgerald.

In 2011, TOWIE producers heard about Gemma through Amy Childs’ mum Julie.

After inviting the camera crew into her house and being filmed with her friends for two weeks, Gemma was hired. On 20 March 2011, she made her TV debut.

In her first scene, Gemma sold a car to Kirk Nircross and later in the series tried to woo his dad Mick.

The reality star’s relationships have been main storylines in The Only Way Is Essex more than once.

In series five, Gemma started seeing co-star Charlie King. She then sparked up a romance with James ‘Arg’ Argent in June 2012 but the couple split that summer.

Gemma enjoyed an on/off relationship with Rami Hawash and he proposed on Christmas Day 2013. However, the couple called off their engagement the following month.

Gemma released her autobiography Basically: My Real Life As An Essex Girl in June 2013 and it became a bestseller in its first week of release.

The next month, Gemma launched her own plus-size clothing range, which became available to buy through her website.

She opened her Brentwood boutique in July 2013.

In January 2014, Gemma competed in ITV diving show Splash! She took part in the first heat, but was eliminated in a Splash-off with Michaela Strachan.

In January 2016, Gemma entered the Celebrity Big Brother house and finished in seventh place.
