George Clooney was born in Kentucky to mum Nina Bruce and dad Nick Clooney in 1961. He has an older sister called Adelia and his aunt was the cabaret singer Rosemary Clooney.

He suffered from Bell’s palsy at school, a condition that partially paralyses the face, but it went away within a year.

George dropped out of university after deciding to pursue acting full-time.

In 1989 George Clooney married actress Talia Balsam in Las Vegas. They divorced in 1993.

The actor got his big break in 1994 playing Dr Doug Ross in hit medical drama ER, which he starred in until 1999.

George soon became a heartthrob and also started to make a name for himself in Hollywood.

He appeared in several hit films such as Out Of Sight, O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Ocean’s Eleven.

The multitalented star turned his hand to directing for the first time in 2002 on the movie Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind and has continued to work behind the camera on a regular basis.

In 2006 George Clooney won his first Oscar for his performance in political drama Syriana.

Over the years he has picked up further nominations as an actor, screenplay writer and director. Notable films include Up In The Air, The Ides Of March and The Descendants.

In 2013 his work as a producer on Argo was rewarded when the movie won the Best Picture accolade.

George has become known for his various romantic liaisons as well as his work. Past girlfriends include Lisa Snowdon, Elisabetta Canalis and Stacy Keibler.

The actor got engaged to British barrister Amal Alamuddin in April 2014 and they married in a lavish ceremony in Venice five months later, with family and some A-list friends looking on.
