Nicholas Hoult was born to parents Glenis and Roger in 1989. He has siblings Clarista, James and Rosanna.

Nicholas was given the middle name Caradoc, which means ‘the beloved one’ in Welsh.

His mother worked as a piano teacher and his dad was a pilot for British Airways. His great-aunt was actress Dame Anna Neagle.

Growing up, Nicholas Hoult attended the Sylvia Young Stage School and Ranelagh School before heading to the Sixth Form College, Farnborough.

He dabbled in dancing, appearing in Swan Lake and performing with the National Ballet in The Nutcracker.

He formed a band with his friends and took the role of lead singer. The group – who he says weren’t serious – performed Arctic Monkeys covers at parties.

Throughout his education, Nicholas juggled his studies with acting roles.

He made his first on-screen performance alongside Julie Walters in black comedy Intimate Relations, aged six. He auditioned to be Harry Potter but lost out to Daniel Radcliffe.

In 2002, he hit the big time starring with Hugh Grant in About A Boy. Nicholas played quirky schoolboy Marcus Brewer in the critically-acclaimed flick.

Nicholas continued to act but kept a fairly low profile until he scored the part of college lothario Tony Stonem in E4’s teen show Skins.

The controversial programme was first broadcast in 2007 and Nicholas’s storylines covered drugs, homosexuality and Tony sustaining a brain injury after a car accident.

Nicholas has since appeared in films including Kidulthood, A Single Man, Jack The Giant Slayer, Warm Bodies and Equals.

He really made a name for himself in Hollywood when he won the role of Beast in the X-Men reboot. X-Men: First Class – the first of the series – was released in 2011.

In his personal life, Nicholas Hoult started dating his X-Men co-star Jennifer Lawrence in 2010.

The couple split in 2013 but rekindled their relationship a few months later. However, they were reported to have ended things for a second time in 2014.
