Ricky Wilson was born in Yorkshire in 1978 as Charles Richard Wilson.

As a youngster he attended Ghyll Royd School and Leeds Grammar School before studying for a BA (Hons) in Graphic Arts and Design at Leeds Metropolitan University.

During his studies Ricky had already started to pursue his interest in music. He was part of a band called Parva, who became the Kaiser Chiefs in 2000.

After graduating the singer worked as an art teacher for a year but soon lost his enthusiasm for the job. He later admitted that he used to sneak out to go on tour with the band.

Eventually Ricky and the Kaiser Chiefs found fame when their debut single Oh My God became a top 10 single in 2004. It was followed by several huge hits including I Predict A Riot and Everyday I Love You Less And Less.

Their first album, Employment, sold over 2 million copies in the UK.

Ricky Wilson and Kaiser Chiefs had their success rewarded in 2006 when they won the Best British Group, British Rock Act and British Live Act accolades at the Brit Awards.

In 2007 the band topped the charts for the first time with Ruby, the first single from their second album Yours Truly, Angry Mob.

During the years that followed the Kaiser Chiefs released several more albums but never quite matched the success of their early hits.

Ricky branched out into acting in 2009 when he played Sarah Harding’s on-screen boyfriend in St Trinian’s 2: The Legend Of Fritton’s Gold. He also starred in the stage musical version of War Of The Worlds in 2012.

In September 2013 it was confirmed that Ricky would join the panel of talent show The Voice. He impressed viewers when he made his debut appearance, with many noticing his newly fit physique.

During his second series as a coach Ricky Wilson won the show with his act Stevie McCrorie. Stevie’s debut single Lost Stars went on to chart in the top 10.

Despite his success on the show there was sad news in Ricky’s personal life as he split from his long-term girlfriend, TV producer Lesley Williams, in March 2015.

A month later he was linked to The Voice stylist Grace Zito.
