Birthplace Epworth, Lincolnshire

Sheridan Smith was born in Epworth, Lincolnshire to father Colin and mother Marilyn in 1981. When she arrived, her parents already had sons Julian and Damian.

Sadly, Julian lost his battle with cancer aged 18. Sheridan was just eight.

Growing up, Sheridan’s parents performed as a country and western duo called The Daltons and their daughter clearly caught the performing bug from them.

From a young age, she studied dance at Scunthorpe’s Joyce Mason School Of Dancing. She was a member of the National Youth Music Theatre from 1995-2001.

After leaving South Axholme Community School, Sheridan Smith moved to London to pursue a career in the performing arts.

Her first notable television appearance was as Matilda in ITV’s Dark Ages, a 1999 sitcom about medieval villagers. Her co-stars included Phill Jupitus and Alistair McGowan.

Also that year, Sheridan landed a role as Emma in The Royle Family. She played the girlfriend of Ralf Little’s character Antony.

She and Ralf went on to appear as couple Janet and Jonny in BBC comedy Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps. The hit series ran for 10 years from 2001-2011, although Sheridan left in 2009.

Sheridan has also made a name for herself in shows such as Grownups, Gavin & Stacey, Jonathan Creek, Love Soup, Dates and Cilla.

She won Best Actress at the BAFTA TV Awards in 2013 for her part as Charmian Biggs – the wife of Great Train Robber Ronnie – in drama Mrs Biggs.

Aside from her television work, Sheridan has wowed audiences with her highly-acclaimed theatre performances.

She’s bagged prestigious gongs for her roles in West End musical Legally Blonde and plays Hedda Gabler and Flare Path.

In her personal life, Sheridan was in a relationship with James Corden – whose sister she played in Gavin & Stacey – before splitting with him in 2009.

She briefly dated Scottish actor Ross McCall but they ended things in 2010.
