The best drama on telly is coming back - which is even more shocking to me than finding out who Danny's killer was
Spoiler alert: those who haven’t yet had the chance to watch last night’s shocking finale to the frankly astounding crime drama Broadchurch, look away now.
Because I am going to reveal the killer (I have to!).
Did you guess whodunit?
After Susan Wright (Pauline Quirke) claimed her son Nige (Joe Sims) was the killer, after seeing a bald man carrying Danny‘s body along the beach at night, I thought, ‘I’ve got it’.
It wasn’t silly, simple Nige – it was his bald lookalike, Joe Miller (Matthew Gravelle), who happened to be the hubby of lovely DS Ellie Miller, played by the awesome Olivia Colman.
Obvs, a bald head is a dead giveaway when the moon is shining on it. They are pretty shiny (soz, baldies).
Last night, we found out the grizzly details of 11-year-old Danny Latimer‘s murder. Yep, Joe had been grooming Danny, and strangled him after Danny rebuffed his advances. It was shocking, and graphic.
But so well done.
Even more shocking, though? Today’s announcement that there’s going to be a series two of the epic drama!
Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall told ITV’s Daybreak, ‘I have a plan. I’m keeping it to myself for a while, but we know what we’re going to do.
‘It’s going to be a very different type of story and hopefully it will be just as compelling and bold and I’m really looking forward to doing it. It will take us a little while, but hopefully it will be something that lives up to the first one.’
Obviously, Chris’s lips are sealed. What I really, really want to know is – is David Tennant coming back to the show?! He did an amazing job as tense, but brilliant DI Alec Hardy.
The suspense is killing me.
For now I’ll bask in the knowledge that ITV’s amazing, amazing, amazing drama is going to be back on our screens in the not-too-distant future!
