Robbie performs as Abi Alton is voted off the show

Robbie Williams revealed that he’s supporting Sam Bailey when he appeared on The X Factor last night.

The singer, 39, helped 36-year-old Sam‘s mentor Sharon Osbourne put her through to the live shows during the judges’ houses stage of the competition and is still backing her now.

Robbie performed new single Go Gentle on a set made to look like a boat and thrilled fans by donning a dapper captain’s uniform.

He followed Canadian star Celine Dion, who’d wowed with her latest song Love Me Back To Life.

Robbie thrilled fans with his naval-themed show – and also has a few celebrity admirers who are happy to see him back on stage.

Adele told her Twitter followers at the weekend that she’s a big fan of the dad-of-one, saying: ‘I wanna be robbie Williams when I’m older #robbieisalegend x.’

Meanwhile, Abi Alton became the latest contestant to leave The X Factor after ending up in the bottom two with Hannah Barrett.

The 19-year-old sobbed after she was voted off but told host Dermot O’Leary that she’d ‘never change’ her experience.
