It sounds like Anne Kirkbride's Coronation Street farewell will be moving viewing
Details of Anne Kirkbride‘s emotional Coronation Street sendoff have been revealed – and it’s received approval from her family.
The actress passed away in January at the age of 60 following a battle with cancer and Corrie will say farewell to her alter ego Deirdre Barlow with a funeral to be screened in July.
Several old faces will return for the sad event, including Chris Gascoyne as Deirdre‘s stepson Peter Barlow and Anne‘s real life pal Susie Blake as former Rovers Return barmaid Bev Unwin.
The plot has been approved by Anne‘s husband David Beckett, who has poignantly said that it’s ‘fit for a legend.’
Deirdre‘s funeral will prove especially emotional for her daughter Tracy, whose ex-husband Robert – played by former Casualty star Tristan Gemmill – shows up for the sendoff.
Tracy, played by Kate Ford, looks set to fall for her former hubby once again, but what she doesn’t know is that he’s still married to his second wife.
The emotional farewell for Deirdre will also be a chance for the Corrie cast to say goodbye to Anne too. Not many of the team attended the actress’s funeral as it was a low-key affair, with just Anne‘s family and a few close friends in attendance.
Corrie star Beverley Callard – who plays Liz McDonald in the soap – was one of the few at Anne‘s sendoff in late January and posted a moving message about it on Twitter.
‘My friend Annie had a beautiful send off today! Dave did her proud!!! No show biz, no hypocrisy! A truly beautiful, loving Goodbye!! X,’ she wrote.
Anne was much loved by the cast as well as viewers of Coronation Street. She played Deirdre for a whopping 42 years and became a Weatherfield institution, so her funeral scenes will undoubtedly be highly emotional.
The actress has also poignantly been nominated for a gong at the upcoming British Soap Awards, with her final appearance on Corrie up for the Scene Of The Year accolade.
