Scruffy singing sensation Michael Collings is determined to be a success
Britain’s Got Talent early favourite Michael Collings doesn’t want viewers of the ITV programme to think he’s a gypsy.
The unkempt 19-year-old, who surprised the judges with his soulful guitar rendition of Tracy Chapman‘s Fast Car on this weekend’s show, lives in a caravan with his elderly parents.
‘I’m not a gypsy and I don’t live on a gypsy site,’ explains Michael.
‘It’s a residential caravan park where [the caravan owner] has to be over 50 to live there…
‘I have nothing against gypsies but I don’t want viewers thinking I am one. I want people to vote for me being me and not someone they think I am.’
Michael hopes his appearance on the show will bring him the same fame and fortune as Susan Boyle, who appeared on the show 2 years ago.
‘If I get through to the live shows I will definitely smarten up,’ he tells the Daily Star Sunday.
‘I’ll do whatever it takes to release an album… I’d love to be as big as Susan Boyle. That would be amazing. She is huge.’
