Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole can't wait to get her category to mentor

Cheryl Cole is ready to return to The X Factor following her battle with malaria.

The Girls Aloud singer was replaced by Nicole Scherzinger during the boot camp stage because of her illness.

But brave Cheryl, 27, yesterday insisted that she’s back to full health at the press conference to mark the show’s launch.

‘I’m absolutely gutted that I missed the last auditions and boot camp,’ she said.

‘But I’m really excited to see what Simon [Cowell], Louis [Walsh] and Nicole have chosen.

‘I can’t wait to get my category so I can get my teeth into it.’

During the press conference, Cheryl also admitted she enjoyed working with the guest judges who filled in for Dannii Minogue, 38, who is currently on maternity leave.

‘It’s lovely for me that there are other women on the panel because I couldn’t be sitting between those two miserable so and so’s on my own,’ she added.

‘It’s like sitting between Tweedledee and Tweedledum.’

Cheryl caught malaria while on holiday with boyfriend Derek Hough, 25, in Tanzania in June.

The X Factor returns tomorrow at 7.30pm on ITV1
