Doctor Who's next sidekick is revealed

Jenna-Louise Coleman has been confirmed as Karen Gillan‘s replacement in Doctor Who.

The ex-Emmerdale actress, who will star as Time Lord Matt Smith‘s companion, is to first hit our screens this Christmas after Karen‘s character Amy Pond leaves the programme.

‘I want to get started already,’ says Jenna.

‘I’m a huge fan of the show.

Matt Smith did my audition with me. It was fun and I felt like we were in it together.’

Jenna, 25, played Jasmine Thomas in Emmerdale and also starred in Waterloo Road as Lindsay James.

‘It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts, but when we saw Matt and Jenna together, we knew we had our girl,’ says lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat.

‘She’s funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the TARDIS.’
