The singer has been congratulated by Simon Cowell and One Direction

James Arthur‘s debut single Impossible looks set to become the fastest-selling of all The X Factor winners’ first releases.

The tattooed guitarist’s cover of Shontelle‘s hit went on sale immediately after the show on Sunday night and had sold 187,000 copies by midnight on Monday.

It’s expected to shift even more copies following its release on CD today.

‘Wow just seen the figures for the single sales and it’s blowing my mind! Thankyou all for buying it on iTunes #impossible,’ Tweets James, 24.

James, 24, has received good wishes from a number of celebrities on the success of his single, including The X Factor boss Simon Cowell.

‘Looks like James Arthur is going to have a massive hit this week. Congratulations,’ Tweets Simon, 53.

James has also taken to Twitter to thank One Direction‘s Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan for their support throughout the competition – which Louis, 20, has continued to provide.

‘Just seen the midweeks @JamesArthur23 is smashing it wow !,’ Tweeted Louis yesterday.
