A special scene has been filmed for tonight's episode

Kate Middleton and Prince William‘s baby boy will feature in tonight’s episode of EastEnders.

Characters Dot Cotton and Abi Branning will be seen discussing the Royal birth in a specially-filmed scene to be inserted into the pre-recorded show.

June Brown – who plays Dot – and Abi‘s alter ego Lorna Fitzgerald shot the conversation after Kate and Wills‘ happy news was announced last night.

‘This is such a momentous occasion for the Royal Family, the country and, of course, the residents of Walford that we felt it should be marked,’ says a spokeswoman.

This isn’t the first time that EastEnders has noted an important occasion by dropping it into the programme.

The death of Michael Jackson, US president Barack Obama‘s election and Andy Murray‘s recent Wimbledon win have all been added at the last minute.

In 2011, footage of the Royal Wedding was scripted into an episode just hours after it had taken place in real life.
