Expensive items were taken from contestants

Strictly Come Dancing stars are reportedly ‘very upset’ after thieves stole expensive items from behind the scenes as they performed at Blackpool Tower on Saturday.

It’s believed that jewellery, mobile phones and an iPad were taken from a dressing room shared by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Abbey Clancy and Natalie Gumede.

The celebs were showing off their moves in the venue’s ballroom at the time, where filming had moved to from Hertfordshire’s Elstree Studios for one night.

There were security scanners on all doors to avoid anyone being able to get into the building, according to sources.

Because of this, it’s thought that the robbers made their way to the changing rooms by using underground tunnels which were built alongside the tower 120 years ago.

They were originally constructed to allow actors, animals and stage equipment to be moved easily between buildings, piers and theatres owned by the Blackpool Tower Company.

In order to navigate their way around the secret tunnels, the culprits would have had to have been ‘insiders’ – although this hasn’t been confirmed.

‘The incident is being dealt with by the police,’ a Strictly spokesman tells the Daily Star.
